Integer Unveils €27 Million Facility in Galway for Medical Technology

Integer Holdings, a group specialising in medical technology, has inaugurated a new £22 million (€27 million) production facility in Co Galway. Designed to cater to the company’s rising needs for research, development and manufacturing capacity for catheters and delivery systems, the manufacturing site spans across 67,000 square feet in the Parkmore East region of Galway. Even though this initial development phase meets immediate requirements, the company disclosed that it has secured planning permission for a spatial expansion of up to 147,000sq ft and contingent on planning permission, it has potential to further extend the facility to 300,000sq ft.
Integer Holdings also invested $60 million (€54) in enhancing its premises in New Ross, Co Wexford, alongside the Galway launch. Commending the continuous expansion of the company after three decades of success in Ireland, IDA Ireland chief executive Michael Lohan attributed it to Ireland’s profitable business growth opportunities.
The manufacturing capacity in Wexford and Galway are testimonials to the expertise and skills available in the regional medical technology sector, he added. Minister for Enterprise Peter Burke termed it as “great news” for the west and southeast regions, emphasising the increased trust of Integer on Ireland and the country’s global significance in the spheres of life sciences and medical technology.
Integer, which has 15 global manufacturing sites, employs 1,300 individuals. Its Irish operations feature a research and development centre in Galway along with manufacturing units in Galway and New Ross. Minister of State Dara Calleary commended the increasing presence of multinational corporations, especially life sciences and medical technology enterprises in west Ireland.
He also noted the significant enhancement in manufacturing capacity (by up to 70%) in their Wexford premises, and lauded it as a major boost for Galway and neighbouring regions, marking west Ireland as a crucial hub in the global arena.
