Indulging in Wild Berries

Dear Sir,

The simple pleasure of a countryside wander in the fall, savouring blackberries from the brambles, is one of life’s pure joys. Despite a hesitant summer, a generous crop awaits us this year. Recalling Seamus Heaney’s verses from ‘Blackberry-Picking’, “Savouring the first one, the sweetness of its pulp/. Like rich, syrupy wine: imbued with the essence of summer, leaving marks on the tongue and overwhelming desire to continue the pick.”

Therefore, I urge against keeping the “newfound berries in the barn”. Instead, thoroughly indulge yourself while the opportunity still presents itself.

Yours sincerely,
Tomás Finn,
Ballinasloe,
County Galway.
