Individual Found Unconscious Following Assault on Cork Bus

Investigations have commenced by the Gardaí, after an incident in Cork City left a man gravely injured and unconscious, as a result of an assault on the upper floor of a Bus Éireann vehicle last Wednesday. The victim, a 41-year-old man native to Macroom, was ruthlessly attacked by a duo who stomped on him upstairs on the bus travelling from the city centre of Cork to Mayfield at around half past four.

The man has been feared to have a possible brain haemorrhage and has four fractured ribs. On Wednesday evening, he was reported to be in an alarming state at Cork University Hospital. The episode was discovered when another passenger went upstairs and quickly informed the bus driver, who halted the bus near Mayfield Garda station.

Paramedical professionals attended to the unresponsive man, initiating stabilising procedures before he was promptly taken to Cork University Hospital, where he is thought to have received critical surgery. The Gardaí commenced an analysis of the bus’s CCTV footage, confirming that the victim had initially entered the bus with individuals, a man and a woman, he was acquainted with, from the heart of Cork City.

It is presumed by the Gardaí that the trio were engrossed in a conversation before an argument erupted between the injured man and the couple. The man was subsequently knocked down and stomped on. The couple then left the injured man unconscious on the bus’s upper floor and alighted a couple of stops before an alarm was raised, and the man was found.

One Gardaí representative stated about the brutal attack, “The victim was horrifically stomped on and kicked. There is a fear of a possible brain haemorrhage and his current situation at the hospital is severe.” They added, “Although the victim is not in a dire state presently, his condition in the next 24 hours will be vital to determine his prognosis.”

The Gardaí are urging anyone who can potentially aid the investigation to get in touch with them at Mayfield Garda station on 021-4558510 or any other Garda station.
