Incapable of Holding Office: Trump

Dear Sir,

An ancient Chinese aphorism professes that even a broken timepiece displays the accurate time twice each day. It’s plausible that Finn McRedmond may hold the view that Trump’s McDonald’s escapade represents one of those infrequent instances where his actions were commendable (“The brilliance behind Donald Trump’s McDonald’s manoeuvre”, 24th October). McRedmond does present a valid argument when she asserts that it’s imperative for us to comprehend why he holds such allure for a considerable number of Americans.

This should not, however, sway any of us – particularly esteemed commentators like Finn McRedmond – into validating his campaign. His blatant unpreparedness for holding office marks him as an anomaly in the history of the nation that cradled modern democracy.

America will observe the 250th anniversary of its democratic birth on the Fourth of July, 2026. It would be a repulsive spectacle if such a celebration was spearheaded by someone who embodies disdain for democratic principles. – Kind Regards,

FELIX M LARKIN,
Dublin 18.
