In April, a tax amount of €4.7bn was remitted by employees and companies

The latest figures reveal that a sum of €4.7 billion in taxes was paid by employees and companies in April, leading to a surplus of €3.6 billion for 12 consecutive months in the government’s financials. As per the Exchequer returns released on the past Friday, the total income of the state for the 12 months culminating at the end of April was recorded at €31.7 billion.

In that duration, the government amassed €24.8 billion in taxes from businesses and individuals, which equated to a €600 million rise compared to the same period through to the end of April 2023, as per the data provided.

April’s income tax alone summed up to €4.7 billion, with employees contributing €3.2 billion. This was an increase of €200 million compared to the same period last year.

On the expenditure front, the national expenditure for the one-year period ending April was €32.9 billion, with a surplus of €3.6 billion recorded, as detailed in the returns.
