“HSE’s Refusal to Fund Sports Prosthetics”

Dear Sir,

It is rather disappointing that the Health Service Executive (HSE) willingly disburses €2.8 million in penalty interest to vendors for delayed payments (News, April 9th), yet it is parsimonious when it comes to funding prosthetics. They restrict their financial support solely to daily use prosthetics, neglecting to consider the needs for leisure or sport-related activities (As mentioned in “‘Distressing’ amount of individuals in Ireland have to resort to crowdfunding for artificial limbs, disability committee at the Oireachtas is informed”, News, April 8th).

I am left to contemplate the potentially massive number of sporting and running prosthetics that this vast sum of €2.8 million could procure.

Yours faithfully,
Bill Kee,
Skerries,
County Dublin.
