Try to find the cause of your headache so that you know how to treat it. Many headaches are caused by dehydration. Think about how much you’ve had to drink that day. Some bad headaches are caused by a bad hangover while other times you might suffer from sinus headaches. Go through the list in your head to determine how to treat it. Another common cause of headaches is stress or anxiety, so make sure to examine your life to see if you’re especially stressed right now. If so, try cutting back on stress in your life or getting medication to treat your anxiety issues.
Medical help
Visit a doctor’s office if you think your headache is because of a medical condition. Your doctor can give you sinus remedies for sinus headaches and offer up tips for stress reducers for stress headaches. Your doctor might prescribe prescription medication for your headaches if serious, and might also prescribe medications to treat any underlying health problems. At home, you can take over-the-counter pain relievers to help you with the pain like aspirin or ibuprofen. Make sure to follow the directions for all medications and to not take more pills than prescribed, even if the pain remains. If the pain doesn’t get better after the prescription medication, make another appointment with your doctor to talk about switching medications or increasing the dose. Some alternative medicine can be effective in treating headaches, but these are not as well studied as traditional medicine. You can try aromatherapy, acupuncture and massage to improve your headache, especially if you have a stress headache.
Proper nutrition
Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. If you feel a headache starting, drink a glass of water right away to help. Also eat properly. Eating a diet with too much salt and sugar can cause headaches.
