Holidays in Sicily: Mafia boss’s farmhouse opens as a hotel and restaurant

If you’re planning to visit Sicily, you may be interested to know that there’s a very special hotel that you can stay at; though, to be frank, the place is causing quite a stir here in Italy.
The stone farmhouse, which has just been turned into a hotel by the Pio La Torre volunteer group, used to belong to Totò Riina, a notorious Mafia boss arrested for his heinous crimes just a few years ago.

Here in Italy, the state can confiscate the assets of convicted Mafiosi.
Located only a step away from the paradisiacal retreat of Gorgo del Drago, the new hotel can accommodate 19 guests and its annexed restaurant can cater for up to 90 persons.
The place has also drawn the attention of several international newspapers among which The Guardian that back in November wrote at length about the subject; according to that article Mafia tourism could become a profitable business in Sicily, but Don Luigi Ciotti, a catholic priest who founded the famous Associazione Libera, seems to see things in a different way; the hotel, said the priest, will help people understand the intrinsic unfairness and cruelty of Mafia.

Its hatred of life.
