Among the historic marvels that Genoa has to offer, we can also include a typical dish, perhaps the most well known outside Liguria: the “farinata” made from chick peas.
The dish is known for the simplicity of its ingredients: chick pea flour, water, salt and extra virgin olive oil.
This speciality dish is generally considered a snack or street food that has been present in the Ligurian capital for a long long time.
Legend has it that the “farinata” was created purely by chance, and necessity, in 1284 when Genoa beat Pisa in the famous battle of Meloria.
