Historic regatta in Venice with traditional Venetian boats

The historic regatta of Venice, the “Regata Storica” is the second biggest event of Venice after the Carnevale di Venezia before Easter.
It represents an important event for the Venetians themselves who race, as well as for tourists given the opportunity to see classic Venetian vessels from the 16th century.

Perhaps one of the most important boats present is the “Bucintoro” from the old republic of the Serenissima, of which Venice was the capital.
There are four “voga veneta” races planned: a youth race with two oars on a “pupparino”, a women’s race with two oars on a “mascareta”, a six-oar race with a “caorlina” boat and the championship race on a gondola.
The event starts at 3:15 pm on September 6th with the launching of Venice’s historic boats.
See the site Venezia Marketing & Eventi for details on where to sit and how to see the races on the Grand Canal.
Races start at the ACTV of San Tomà, and tickets are 40 euros.
I can only imagine that this is one very spectacular event.
