It has been reported that Cathal Heneghan of Roscommon may be facing a single match suspension due to an incident involving Jason Foley of Kerry that occurred at Dr Hyde Park the previous Sunday. Heneghan allegedly stepped on the right lower leg of Foley during the second half of the Division One league match. Foley had to leave the game due to an ankle injury, which could result in a considerable period of absence for the Kerry player.
Following Heneghan scoring a goal for Roscommon, the incident took place and has since been reviewed by the CCCC. Reports from the Roscommon Herald suggest Heneghan’s punishment could be a single match ban, however, county board representatives remained tight lipped when asked for comment on the situation last Wednesday evening.
Assuming Heneghan accepts the one match ban, it would mean he is absent for the vital match against Derry this coming Sunday. Victory in this game is crucial for Davy Burke’s team if they harbour any ambitions of escaping relegation.
Nonetheless, Heneghan would be free to play in the Connacht SFC semi-final for Roscommon against either Mayo or New York, slated for April 21st.
