“Heavy Rain and Flooding Warning”

Met Éireann has declared a status yellow rain alert for several counties including Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Clare and Galway on Sunday morning. The alert, effective from 10.30am on the same day, is slated to last until 12pm Monday. Considering the intense rain forecasted for the day and extending to Sunday evening, the weather authority has alerted about the possibility of localized flooding, impeded visibility and challenging travel conditions in these counties.

The weather body predicts rain and drizzle over the country’s southwest on Sunday morning, with the showers anticipated to “expand gradually in a north-eastward direction as the day proceeds”. In other parts of the country, regions like northeast Leinster and Ulster are expected to stay dry till after sundown. Across the country, top temperatures will vary from 7 to 11 degrees, alongside light to moderate westerly winds that will “transition to southerly and intensify”.

The weather agency also noted that rain outbursts will grow intense in the west and southwest later tonight, raising the “prospect of some local flooding”. It also mentioned the potential for fog and mist patches. Temperature ranges from 4 to 6 degrees are predicted for the south and southwest, but may hit 8 degrees in other areas.

As Monday morning arrives, the rain will sustain and continue for a significant part of the day as the weather system traverses the country. The meteorologists warn of a risk of localized flooding associated with heavier showers throughout the country. The showers are predicted to recede in the evening, accompanying the possibility of “a few sunny intervals” in the west and south.

On Monday, temperatures are projected to stay within 7 and 10 degrees, coupled with light to moderate winds.
