Harris OKs Debate, Trump Rejects

Kamala Harris, the Vice-President of the United States, has agreed to a further debate with Donald Trump, organised by CNN, set for October 23rd. Her call to her republican adversary comes less than a fortnight before the November 5th presidential elections, as announced by her campaign team on Saturday.

“Kamala is ready for an additional opportunity to engage with Trump on a live platform, having accepted the offer from CNN to debate on October 23rd. There’s no reason for Trump to decline this,” stated Jen O’Malley Dillon, who chairs the campaign for Harris.

When questioned about Harris’ decision to accept the debate invitation from CNN, a spokesperson for Trump reiterated the ex-president’s previous stand of no subsequent debates.

Harris and Trump’s initial debate occurred on September 10th, where polls indicated a victory for the Democratic nominee.

Despite an announced refusal for another debate against Harris prior to the presidential election, Trump previously participated in a debate with current president Joe Biden in June. Mr Biden’s shaky display during the debate left Democrats anxious, resulting in strategists considering an unheard-of option of replacing the 81-year old president as the candidate for their party. However, in July, Mr Biden stepped down from the presidential race. Please note this information is accredited to Reuters. (c) Copyright Thomson Reuters 2024.
