“Hamlet: Everything else equates to hush”

Dear Readers,

In reference to the recent contentious issue surrounding the query concerning Hamlet’s ‘optimism’ in the Leaving Cert (Education, June 6th Letters, June 10th), my conjecture would be that the students’ reaction could likely echo sentiments along the line of, “I sincerely hope to never encounter this play again.” This is rather regrettable, and unfortunately, is frequently the result after the examination preparation extinguishes the enjoyment found in the Leaving texts.

Sincerely,
Tomás Finn,
