Dear Sir,
Following on from “A perspective from Iceland: the achievements of Heimir Hallgrímsson showcase an unrivalled determination to emerge victorious” (Sports, 11th of July), I am thrilled that after a span of 231 days, Heimir Hallgrímsson has finally stepped up to serve as the new head coach for the FAI men’s team. Given that he was once a practicing dentist, does his appointment hinge on his ability to fill in a void or alleviate discomfort? I am, faithfully, DERMOT O’ROURKE, hailing from Lucan in County Dublin.
Touching on the life of an Irish expat in Colombia: “I do find myself missing Dunnes. The shopping experience here, however, offers a delightful journey back to simpler times”.
Dave Hannigan ponders a question: Why is it that Lance Armstrong’s dishonesty seems to elicit such an indifferent response among numerous cycling enthusiasts?
Restaurant critique: Gregans Castle is a prime candidate to secure Ireland’s impending Michelin star.
“A dilemma persists, as the man I am seeing, who was previously married, always prioritises his children over me”.
Dear Sir, I am aware of Heimir Hallgrímsson’s dental credentials, that being said, I am curious regarding his aptitudes as a football player and a coach.
Does he have any caps under his belt? Is he capable of training his players rigorously? Can he solve the underlying issues the Irish team faces on the field? Is he equipped to narrow the gap that separates his team from other internationally acclaimed squads possessing superior technical skills?
Is it possible for him to instil in his players a sense of duty to fiercely contest for every ball in every international game they participate in?
If the responses to the aforementioned inquiries are in affirmation, Heimir may well bring it all home by leading Ireland to secure a position in the 2026 World Cup.
In fact, it would be prudent for Irish supporters to gird themselves for what might unfold as a spectacular footballing adventure. Yours faithfully,
PAUL DELANEY,
Residing in Dalkey,
County Dublin.
