Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s manager, has voiced his confidence that the club will maintain its robust structure and performance even if his tenure comes to an end in the coming summer. His decision in extending his contract through to a decade is set to be made this winter. Txiki Begiristain’s planned exit as the sporting director at the culmination of the season is confirmed. He drew comparisons to the shift in Manchester United’s form post the departure of Alex Ferguson in 2013.
Guardiola believes that despite any possible executive errors, swift resolutions will be at hand and reassures his faith in the club continuing without disruptions even after a significant departure. He underlined the idea that the individual departures cannot bring an established institution down, emphasising the need for evolution and progressing beyond the present.
In the light of some players like Kevin De Bruyne battling health problems, few others aging, and burgeoning interest in Ederson from Saudi Arabia, Guardiola was questioned on the relevance of the upcoming summer in terms of recruitment. He ceded that the final call would be made by the sporting directors, but acknowledged the necessity for the club to stay primed for such instances, focusing attention on potential player departures citing reasons like dissatisfaction and lack of playing time.
When enquired if he had a say in the decision to hire Viana, Guardiola said that whilst he often gives his perspectives on various issues, he wasn’t involved in this particular decision. He also clarified that he didn’t have a dialogue with Viana who, he stated, will be joining from Sporting, as reported by The Guardian.
