Graduate Programme: An Incredible Journey

Introducing myself, my name is Sally Hickey, a 23-year-old from Cork. Having pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from University College Cork, I completed my studies in 2023. Currently, I am employed as a marketing executive, looking after brand and sponsorship within Vodafone’s graduate initiative.

While undergoing an internship at the company during my penultimate year of university, I discovered the graduate initiative. The six-month industry placement was an enriching experience, intensifying my interest in further opportunities within the organisation. The programme’s emphasis on marketing greatly influenced my decision to apply, as it resonated with my career objectives.

The 18-month rotational nature of the graduate initiative has been an astounding journey. It has provided me with a comprehensive overview of the telecommunications sector, exposing me to various departments including marketing, finance, HR and corporate security. Working in a brisk environment, I was entrusted with significant responsibilities from the onset. Additionally, the unwavering support and guidance of an exceptional team of mentors has been instrumental in my professional growth.

Speaking of my professional experience, the programme has provided a dynamic and experiential environment. I began my career journey with Vodafone Foundation’s Hi Digital project, honing my skills in project management whilst working on high-impact social initiatives. It was during this time that I developed a keen interest in event management. The programme’s adaptable structure facilitated a focus on this aspect in my second rotation.

Presently, my work involves business brand and sponsorship, accentuating our partnership with Irish Rugby. This position has substantially strengthened my capabilities in marketing, strategising and event administration.

I have a fervent interest in establishing a thriving profession in brand supervision and endorsement, a passion which has been enhanced by the graduate scheme. The strategic aspect of brand cultivation and the inventive potential of event activations particularly captivate me. I am keen to build on my experiences and assimilate knowledge from the skilled professionals in my vicinity.
