GM Pedestrian Detection: the lifesaving App!

General Motors is working on a pedestrian detection system at low-visibility conditions, based on wireless technology.
The system is much more advanced than those currently on the market, as it uses Wi-Fi Direct to recognise handsets with peer-to-peer wireless connection.
Thanks to this technology, the Pedestrian Detect GM – easily integrated into any anti-collision systems featured on most GM vehicles- can detect smartphones or tablets carried by pedestrians and cyclists, sending out signals to their mobile phones and alerting the driver of the imminent danger, preparing the vehicle to brake.

For the system to function is required a mobile application, already under developed by GM engineers, that connect devices at high speed (one second) through Wi-Fi Direct as soon as the pedestrian or cyclist approach a road or goes through it.
