Gino Rea forms own Moto2 team to wildcard in 2013

It looks like Gino Rea’s donation and sponsorship appeal website and his ad on MCN is slowly starting pay off, as the British rider is set on forming his own team and wants to compete as a wildcard in eleven rounds of the Moto2 championship.
Rea was left without a ride for the 2013 season when his new ESGP team pulled out at the last minute due to lack of funding, but since FTR is willing to give the Brit a bike and Dorna and IRTA have given the green light allowing him to wild-card in how many rounds he is able to afford, (the entry fee for wildcards for each Moto2 race is €12,500 which Rea will have to add travelling and living costs which adds up to about £20,000) he plans to take part in the following races: Jerez 5 May, LeMans 19 May, Mugello 2 June, Catalunya 16 June, Assen 29 June, Sachsenring 14 July, Brno 25 August, Silverstone 1 September, Misano 15 September, Aragon 29 September and Valencia 10 November.

“I’m really excited about this project.
I wanted to remain in the Moto2 Championship and running our own team was the only option.

My father and I will run the team with bike support from the British FTR manufacturer,” said Rea.
“We will have the only British bike on the grid so every effort will go into getting results.
Of course, it’s going to be difficult to go up against all the big budget teams but I believe we can do it.
Our testing schedule will be very limited due to budget but I believe in FTR to build a competitive bike for me.
Our first race will be at Jerez, the third round of the World Championship following Qatar and Austin.
It’s a shame we can’t do these two but we hope that if we can attract enough sponsors we can fund the rest of the European races at least.
I want to thank everyone who has supported me so far, both through GinoReaClub.
com and individually.
I am overwhelmed by the generosity of my supporters and I would love to repay them by being on the Moto2 grid this year.
” The Gino Rea team will begin testing the new bike on tracks around the UK during the weekends and at the official three-day Moto2 test at Jerez and the team is still looking for sponsors to fund each race and can offer a range of sponsorship packages including per round coverage on his bike, MotoGP paddock passes, hospitality.
If you would like to support Gino and have your company name on his bike for a MotoGP World Championship Round, please contact Gino Rea Race Team as soon as possible.
If you would like to sponsor an International race this can also be arranged.
