According to reports by the dpa news outlet, a minimum of 23 individuals sustained injuries due to a fire that broke out in two carriages of a Ferris wheel at a music festival in Germany. The incident, which took place to the east of Leipzig on Saturday evening, began with a fire in a single carriage that quickly spread to a neighbouring one, said the local police.
Four individuals suffered from burns, with one person also injured from a fall. In addition, various individuals including at least four policemen and a number of first responders have come under medical examination at a local hospital for potential smoke inhalation, as reported by dpa news agency. The incident occurred at the Highfield Festival, located beside the Stoermthaler Lake.
Police are still working on establishing the cause of the fire, and have yet to provide specific details regarding the condition of the injured. The exact tally of casualties is also yet to be confirmed. According to the Ferris wheel’s operator who spoke to dpa, there were no passengers in the carriage where the fire originated.
