Gaza is facing a dire humanitarian situation

Dear Sir,

Leo Varadkar, the Taoiseach, made a statement in Washington last Wednesday, expressing his belief that US President Joe Biden’s intentions towards Gaza are noble. However, one can’t help but ponder the issue that Mr Varadkar may have overlooked: Who is providing the armaments that Israel is utilising to commit the horrific slaughter of numerous Palestinians in Gaza? Who is continuously instructing the American delegate on the UN Security Council to block resolutions, which receive vast support, for a lasting ceasefire?

With regard to the terrible situation in Gaza, it is crucial for Mr Varadkar to openly confront the power structure. Regrettably, he appears more inclined to curry favour with his host than to address the substantive issues at hand.

Yours faithfully,
FINTAN LANE,
Lucan, Dublin County.
