Gaza: 99 Dead, 169 Injured

According to the Gaza Strip’s health ministry, Israeli military operations have resulted in the death of 41,788 Palestinians and injured 96,794 more since 7 October. The past day alone has witnessed the loss of 99 Palestinian lives, with an additional 169 people injured, the ministry confirmed in a recent statement.

On the preceding day, a multitude of individuals perished due to an Israeli missile attack that struck a school survivor camp in Gaza City. Another blast hit Al-Amal Orphan Society, a shelter for displaced civilians. As the first anniversary of the Gaza war sparked by the Hamas assault on Israeli territories draws near, the Israeli military shows no signs of easing its attacks on Palestinian Islamist organisations.

In just a single day of conflict, Palestinian casualties in Gaza reached 99, with an additional 169 wounded, escalating the existing death toll. Meanwhile, southern Lebanon residents are warned to evacuate due to ongoing Israeli strikes on Beirut. Conflict also extended towards Iran’s nuclear facilities, strikes which US President Joe Biden openly opposes.

Israel reports 1,200 fatalities and over 250 taken hostage in the initiating assault, which sparked a war that caused catastrophic damage in Gaza and displacement of the majority of its 2.3 million inhabitants. Separately, the Israeli defence forces disclosed that it had executed a targeted airstrike three months ago in the Gaza, which resulted in the death of three high-ranking Hamas officials. The three individuals were identified as Rawhi Mushtaha, a close aide of Hamas Gaza leader Yehya Al-Sinwar; Sameh Al-Saraj, a senior security officer; and Sami Odeh, the head of Hamas’ general security force.

In Nuseirat, an Israeli airstrike lead to a Palestinian fatality and several injuries, while another in Gaza City caused five Palestinian deaths. With the anniversary of the commencement of the war approaching, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip observe it with the uncertainty of the conflict concluding. At the same time, Israel has commenced a geographically separated ground assault in Lebanon against Hizbullah, Hamas’s ally supported by Iran. In another development, the death of Abdel-Aziz Salha – a key Hamas militant from the West Bank and a participant in the 2000 lynching event of two Israeli reservists in Ramallah – has been announced. He was sentenced to life but was later extradited to Gaza following a prisoner exchange. The news was confirmed by Hamas media and medical personnel.

In a recent Israeli air raid on Al-Aklouk School, a makeshift shelter for Palestinian refugees in the central Gaza Strip region of Deir Al-Balah, Salha reportedly lost his life, according to health professionals. There’s yet to be a response from Israel regarding Salha’s demise and whether it was intentional.

Back in 2000, an incident unfolded in the West Bank’s Ramallah. Reserve forces were captured at a Palestinian checkpoint, carried to a police facility, and cruelly attacked and suffocated to death by a crowd. This event occurred in the aftermath of the burial of a Palestinian adolescent, aged 17, who had been slain by Israeli gunfire. During the following fortnight, more Palestinians lost their lives in different parts of the West Bank.

Salha was apprehended by Israeli forces in 2001 and was given a life sentence. However, a decade later, in October 2011, he was released in a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas, along with in excess of 1,000 other Palestinians. This swap ensured the liberation of the Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, who had been held captive in Gaza for five years. This information comes courtesy of Reuters news agency.
