Garron Noone’s Delicious Irish Podcast

Garron Noone, hailing from Ireland’s picturesque landscapes, has quickly become an irresistibly delightful character for many. Surpassing all in popularity, he mirrors your most amusing and loved country cousin whose main passion lies in Deliveroo and harbours strong views about pasta shapes and crisp types. The nation’s affection for him has grown at a tremendous pace, which is majorly due to his entertaining and opinionated TikTok and Instagram videos that he started producing since the middle of 2022. Today, he’s followed by over two million people across social media platforms. His closing remarks, “Follow me, I’m delicious”, has earned a spot in our national Catchphrase Hall of Fame, joining the ranks of “Spit on me, Dickie” and “Roll it there, Colette”.

Inevitably, Noone soon ventured into the realms of podcasting, or as he prefers to term it, an aural entertainment experience. His podcast, Listen, I’m Delicious, which started airing on October 4th, loosely revolves around popular foods and snacks. Each episode features a guest who relishes the chance to discuss their favourite treats, such as Lilt and Bacon Fries, followed by discourses going astray into varied subjects such as the Céide Fields, nasal insertion of garlic cloves, and St Patrick.

A new Dublin inhabitant from Ballina, Noone fondly reminisces about cows while also marvelling at the increased Deliveroo options. He has made a name for himself through snacking critiques, with impassionate defences of wagon wheels – deeming them ‘extraordinary’-, and sharing his love for ready-salted Hula Hoops – a notion where he isn’t incorrect. The current guestlist includes friends, comedians, and influencers, energetically mirroring Noone’s persona. Meanwhile, Noone attempts to stay somewhat focused – the first episode delivers mildly exaggerated breakfast trivia, including the questionable fact that cornflakes were originally invented to curb the act of self-pleasure – but evidently likes to keep it light-handed in the interviews, banking on his innate likability to engage listeners.

In essence, Garron Noone’s podcast titled, “Listen, I’m Delicious” is unashamedly Irish, a characteristic that has endeared him to the food and podcast-loving community. His unique style is heard in his leisurely bass voice, complemented by his unexpectedly light-hearted laughter, is an auditory treat.

The depth of his authenticity is seen in his frank expression of his phobia for Egg McMuffins, which he links to alien abductions, and his more-than-average affection for Dublin’s Camden Rotisserie restaurant. Despite having a significant following in America, Noone makes a conscious effort to clarify some of the Irish-specific phrases he uses for their sake.

Many may question how well his American audience can grasp some of the uniquely Irish nuances such as the potential for butter preferences to jeopardise friendships, the likelihood of resorting to violence post a meal of curry chips, and the mysterious significance of Cidona.

“Listen, I’m Delicious” has a charmingly endearing rambling and slightly raw production quality, something you’d anticipate from a host who is known for his deliberately haphazard two-minute videos on Irish identity and biscuits. One might wonder if the podcast strays aimlessly from discussions about spicebags to advocating skydiving as an Olympic event. Regardless, Noone unveils more of his personality, bridging the gap towards a revered national icon status.

After all, he compares himself to a breakfast roll with dual black puddings, thereby emphasising his appeal, much like his alias, the geography teacher of TikTok. The longer podcast format may dull some of his usual spark, but it seems to only display more of his relatable persona.
