RTÉ 2FM has made the announcement that radio host Doireann Garrihy will be departing from the station. For half a decade, Garrihy has hosted the highly-favoured morning programme, 2FM Breakfast and is set to present her last show on May 31st.
In disclosing her departure, Garrihy stated it was time for new endeavours and took a moment to salute her co-presenters, namely Donncha O’Callaghan and Carl Mullan. She expressed her gratitude to them, stating they had become lifelong brothers and described the cherished memories of fun, immature antics, and deep bonds forged. She described herself as extensively fortunate to share her workdays with these gentlemen.
Garrihy did not forget to appreciate her followers stating, their sustained support was invaluable. She did not recollect a single morning where she resented rising before dawn for the show and thanked them for warmly receiving her since her start in 2019.
She expressed her gratitude to other contributors to the show’s production and to the Head of RTÉ 2FM, Dan Healy, for believing in her abilities. Garrihy further revealed her intention to develop her podcasts ‘Doireann and Friends’ and ‘The Laughs Of Your Life’, to give back to those who followed her since her viral impression video in 2016 and explore new projects.
In response to her departure, Dan Healy praised Garrihy as an outstanding broadcaster. While he expressed his regret regarding her decision, he stated his respect for it and wished her luck in all her future endeavours. He acknowledged Garrihy’s contribution to 2FM’s prospering state and expressed his anticipation to carry forward the legacy of the breakfast show beyond the summer months.
