In an operation against organised crime in Galway, more than €1 million in assets, of which half was in crypto assets, were seized or frozen by the Garda. Multiple places in Tuam and Moycullen were searched by the Galway Division Gardaí on Monday.
The operation led to the seizure of €75,000 in hard cash, three vehicles, including a Tiguan jeep, an Audi A5, and a Ford Transit van. They also impounded several high-value goods such as 12 designer timepieces and numerous electronic items.
Garda units from Galway Divisional Crime, Galway Drugs Unit, Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Armed Support Unit, and the Garda Dog Unit actively participated in the operation.
Furthermore, due to anti-money laundering laws, two bank holdings, one local and one overseas, containing cash and digital currency exceeding €990,000 were frozen. One account held €530,000 in digital currency, whilst the other had €465,000 in liquid cash.
So far, no individuals have been apprehended. The operation’s objective lies in destabilising and breaking down organised criminal factions within the Galway Division and is continuing, according to the Garda.
