Authorities are urging anyone who might have witnessed a theft which took place on the N7 in Kildare on Saturday afternoon to come forward. The theft occurred on the southbound lane near Kill, County Kildare at around 2pm. The female victim had pulled over onto the hard shoulder between Junction 7 and Junction 8 due to a flat tyre. A man alighted from a car that had parked ahead of hers and, following a heated exchange, made off with several personal belongings from her vehicle, stated the police.
The woman was reportedly checking her vehicle when the robbery occurred and had a money-filled bag stolen. The initial investigation suggests the robbery was a crime of opportunity, with the thief capitalising on her as she was stranded at the roadside. Police, however, highlight that the investigation is in its infancy stage.
Although the woman was not seriously harmed, no arrests have been made so far relating to this case.
Gardaí are asking any motorists who were on the N7 between 1:45pm and 2:15pm, especially between Junction 7 (Kill) and Junction 8 (Johnstown), and may have any form of video footage to provide this to them. Anyone who may know anything regarding this matter is urged to call the Naas Garda Station on 045 884300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any local Garda station. The investigation continues.
