Several individuals have been apprehended in relation to an event that took place on Dublin’s Shelbourne Road, in the aftermath of Ireland’s match against England. The occurrence is believed to have transpired shortly past 7.30 pm as spectators were leaving the Aviva Stadium, following England’s victory by two goals, while Ireland did not manage to net a ball.
England started triumphantly under the temporary management of Lee Carsley, with both Jack Grealish and Declan Rice contributing to the score in their inaugural Nations League match in Dublin. Since the preceding Friday night, an impressive force of up to 1,100 Garda officers patrolled the capital, hailing not just from Dublin but from around the country.
Grealish and Rice, despite being the targets of jeering, were successful in being England’s standout players against Ireland. The Garda public order unit is understood to have apprehended at least three individuals. Those implicated in the event are currently held at various Garda facilities throughout the city of Dublin.
In anticipation of, during, and after the match, mounted Garda officers and a Garda helicopter patrolled the southern city centre and the neighbouring residential areas of Ballsbridge, Donnybrook, Ringsend and Irishtown. A representative of the Garda validated that an event had occurred and multiple arrests had been made. Thus far, no injuries have been reported.
