Following Tuesday morning’s searches connected to the Dublin unrest in November, nine individuals were apprehended. The searches were conducted across a number of different locations in Dublin city by Store Street’s Gardaí, as part of their ongoing investigation into the severe public disturbances that occurred on the 23rd of November.
Those who were taken into custody included eight males and one female. All nine individuals are presently in detainment under the provisions of the Criminal Justice Act of 1984, Section 4, at various Garda stations located in the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR).
The arrest tally connected with the riots has now risen to 49. The disorder originated from an episode where a stabbing event occurred outside a school on East Parnell Square, located in the city centre, during lunchtime on the 23rd of November. Chaos ensued after speculation about the identity of the perpetrator started circulating, leading to far-right instigators assembling at the spot and trying to force their way through it.
The incident sparked off confrontations between the crowd present and the Public Order Unit Gardaí, which subsequently escalated into widespread violence. Shops were plundered and public transport vehicles, inclusive of a Luas tram, buses, and Garda vehicles were set ablaze.
An Garda Síochána has once again called upon anyone having any information about the happenings on that particular day or about any individuals involved in planning or participating in these events, to communicate with the Garda investigation team at the Store Street Garda Station on 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any other Garda station.
