Police are currently investigating an event in Sutton, County Dublin, where a vehicle collided with the barriers of a level crossing. The occurrence took place just before 7pm and involved a small waste disposal van, suspected to have been stolen. It’s alleged that it drove straight through the barriers which had been fully lowered, confirmed by a representative from Irish Rail.
The impact of the crash damaged the barriers, and the van eventually came to a stop slightly down the road. Thankfully, no other vehicles were implicated in the accident, and there have been no injuries reported to date.
The representative from Irish Rail confirmed that the scene has been sealed off for an ongoing investigation. Furthermore, the Dublin Dart services between Howth and Howth Junction are currently on hold. It’s doubtful they will resume later in the evening. However, Dublin Bus is accepting rail tickets for convenience.
The accident has caused a significant build-up of traffic on the city’s north side. More information will be provided as the story develops.
