“Galway Defeats Dublin in Quarter-Final Thriller”

The line-up for the semifinals of the 2024 TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship has been established and confirmed this past Sunday. For these anticipated matches, Kerry will go head-to-head with Armagh, and Galway will oppose Cork at Glenisk O’Connor Park, Tullamore, on Saturday, the 20th of July.

Kerry, having been the runner-up for two consecutive seasons, managed to overcome the champions of 2021 and 2022, Meath with a score of 0-16 to 0-8 in Tralee in their ongoing pursuit of their first title since 1993. Armagh had an impressive victory over Mayo, spurring this match up with Kerry, a repeat of this year’s Lidl National League final where Armagh notably triumphed for the first time by a margin of three points.

Offering a good competition, Galway eliminated the current All-Ireland champions, Dublin in a thrilling quarter-final extra-time match at Parnell Park when Aoife O’Rourke scored a crucial late goal. Galway’s score settled at 3-7 whereas Dublin ended at 1-12. Cork secured their spot in the semi-finals showcasing an impressive 1-17 to 2-4 win against Waterford. This leads them to face Galway, with both teams having been relegated from the top flight in the Lidl National League and are now vying for a spot in this year’s TG4 All-Ireland SFC final at Croke Park.

In addition, this upcoming Saturday, the 13th of July, Laois and Kildare will be squaring off for senior grade survival. Laois suffered a loss to Tipperary with a score of 1-15 to 1-4, and Kildare narrowly lost by 0-9 to 0-8 to Donegal in the previous relegation play-offs. Both sides will be matching up in a critical relegation play-off finale, where the defeated side will be demoted to the intermediate rank in 2025.

Lastly, Antrim sadly fell into junior ranks for the year 2025 after a heavy defeat by Wicklow, 2-17 to 1-3 in the intermediate relegation play-off. Wicklow, on the other hand, have secured their participation in the intermediate championship matches for the coming year.

Looking at the earlier quarter-final results, Cork won against Waterford with 1-17 to 2-4, while Kerry secured a victory over Meath with a 0-16 to 0-8 score.

In the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship’s relegation qualifiers, Galway held a winning score of 3-7 over Dublin’s 1-12 while Armagh edged out Mayo at 2-11 to 0-11. Additionally, Tipperary came out strong with a 1-15 victory over Laois’ 1-4, and Donegal secured a close win of 0-9 against Kildare’s 0-8. In the Intermediate Championship’s relegation playoffs, Wicklow dominated Antrim with a 2-17 to 1-3 triumph.

Looking ahead, the Senior Championship semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday, 20th July at Glenisk O’Connor Park in Tullamore. The showdown will see Kerry contesting Armagh, while Galway engages Cork. Enthusiasts can enjoy the live broadcast of both games on TG4, scheduled for kick-offs at 5.15pm and 7.30pm. The order in which the games will be played is yet to be confirmed.
