“Funding towards unlawful Israeli colonies”

Sir, in response to the article “Bill to outlaw investment in illegal Israeli settlements could isolate Ireland globally” (News, March 20th), I’d like to suggest a different perspective: “The bill to prohibit investment in illegal Israeli settlements could position Ireland as a global trendsetter.”

These unlawful settlements are precisely that – unlawful. They are a significant breach of international law and to knowingly back strategic investments in these illegally occupied territories is equivalent to approving these violations.

Global investment cannot and should not be perceived as detached or unrelated to the broader international legal and political environment we reside in. Yours sincerely,
