ESB has revealed plans for the refurbishment and repainting of the Poolbeg chimney stacks. The repair and repainting work on the white and red stripes of the chimneys are due to start in August and carry on until September. The task will then take a break during wintertime, resuming on the inferior regions in the late spring of 2025.
The chimneys are obsolete but still form an integral part of ESB’s Poolbeg Energy Hub. They will house some of the most advanced renewable energy technologies, including batteries, green hydrogen and offshore wind in the forthcoming decade.
ESB’s executive director, Jim Dollard, has expressed pleasure in announcing the renewal of the Poolbeg chimneys, previously a component of the site’s former oil power station. Although non-functional, the Poolbeg chimney stacks are a renowned Dublin landmark, famous to many and remain a significant feature on the Poolbeg peninsula, the current location of the Poolbeg Energy Hub.
The Poolbeg peninsula, a major location for the nation’s energy resources since 1902, is foreseen to be instrumental in executing ESB’s Net Zero by 2040 tactic. It is also anticipated to be crucial in assisting Ireland achieve its emission reduction goals.
