Four Held in €8.5m Cannabis Seizure

In Tallaght, four individuals were apprehended following a seizure of cannabis estimated at €8.5 million. After intercepting two automobiles around 3pm on Friday, officers conducted a search at a commercial property situated in Ballymount. The planned sting led to the confiscation of 429 kilograms of cannabis, and was an initiative spearheaded by the Garda and Revenue under Operation Tara, which aims to tackle organised crime.

The quartet of detainees, whose ages range from 31 to 58, were taken into custody under the 2006 Criminal Justice Act’s Section 72. They are facing charges related to the aiding and abetting of a criminal organisation to perpetrate drug trafficking crimes. Presently, they remain in custody at Garda stations in Dublin, as investigations proceed.

Conveying the force’s resolve, Garda head of Organised and Serious Crime Assistant Commissioner Justin Kelly stated: “This operation showcases our dedication to combating global drugs trafficking networks and their facilitators, and our continuous mission to make it increasingly challenging for them to conduct their illegal activities on Irish soil”.
