Kevin Flynn, a midfield player for Kildare, will not be in the lineup for the crucial Leinster SFC semi-final game against Louth this Sunday. This is due to his one-match suspension following his straight red card in the quarter-final match against Wicklow.
During the late part of the first half of the match at O’Moore Park, Flynn was dismissed from the field after hitting Patrick O’Keane on the cheek with a high tackle. This led to Referee, Seán Lonergan, showing Flynn the red card, putting Kildare at a numeric disadvantage for the rest of the game. Despite this setback, Glenn Ryan’s team managed to pull through the tension-filled climax of the game and secure a place in the semi-finals.
Kildare decided against contesting the proposed one-match suspension from GAA disciplinary officials, making Flynn unavailable for the crucial match at Croke Park against Louth. Kildare is under pressure to win dominantly over the Wee County and secure a spot in the Leinster final to have a shot at the All-Ireland series. A loss to Louth will finalise Kildare’s participation in the Tailteann Cup over this summer.
