Following an investigation relating to the riots that took place in the heart of Dublin city on November 23rd of the previous year, the Gardaí have brought charges against five individuals. Nine arrests were made during a city-wide search operation on Tuesday morning. Out of these, four were presented before the Criminal Courts of Justice later that day. The remaining individuals are scheduled to be brought before the same court on Wednesday morning. The arrests have now reached a sum of 49 in regards to the previous year’s riots.
Rumours surrounding the identity of a suspect in a stabbing that occurred outside a school on Parnell Square East in Dublin’s city centre at midday on November 23rd led to the sparking of tumultuous events. Far-right instigators converged on the scene, attempting entry. This resulted in conflict between the gathered individuals and officers from the Public Order Unit of the Gardaí, causing violence to break out. Numerous shops were looted, and vehicles, including a Luas tram, buses, and Garda vehicles, were set ablaze in multiple arson attacks.
