Five individuals have been indicted relating to the untimely demise of Matthew Perry, a notable figure from the sitcom Friends, on account of an accidental overdose of ketamine in October of the previous year, as disclosed by US attorney, Martin Estrada in a press conference on Thursday.
Following a collaboration between the LAPD and the DEA, the charges were brought to light after an investigation in May into the circumstances of Perry’s passing. According to Mr Estrada, the probe exposed a prolific clandestine criminal enterprise responsible for supplying Perry and others with large quantities of ketamine.
Perry, a 54-year-old actor best recognised for his role of Chandler Bing in the popular American sitcom Friends, was discovered unresponsive in his home’s swimming pool in Los Angeles on the 28th of October.
In the month of December, it was determined that Perry’s demise was an accidental side effect of ketamine, a tranquiliser known to serve recreational purposes, as well as used for depression and pain relief.
From analysis undertaken by a medical examiner, it was disclosed that Perry had ketamine infusion therapy for managing his depression and anxiety, with the last known session taking place approximately ten days before his tragic end.,
“The ketamine present in his body during his demise could not have been from his previous infusion therapy”, as stated in the report.
Perry was candid about his struggles with addiction and substance abuse, making strides in establishing a sober dwelling for men combating similar battles. In the wake of his demise, a foundation in his honour was inaugurated to aid those dealing with addiction.
