Davy Fitzgerald has ended his time as the Waterford manager, concluding his second stint as the head of the county’s premier hurlers. Despite managing Waterford for the past two seasons, they unfortunately did not make it out of the Munster SHC in either year. Consequently, the Clare-born manager has chosen not to return for 2025.
“Upon thorough reflection, I’ve come to the decision to resign as the Waterford senior hurling team’s manager,” Fitzgerald conveyed this through a statement to The Irish Examiner. “My heartfelt appreciation goes out to the players for their tireless dedication over the prior two seasons. Narrow circumstances held us back from entering Munster’s elite three this year, and advancing to the 2024 All-Ireland championship. However, I’m convinced that the potential exists within Waterford to compete enthusiastically once more at the pinnacle of hurling.
“I’d like to express my enormous appreciation to my backroom team including Peter [Queally], Eoin [Kelly], as well as county chairman Seán Michael O’Regan, secretary Pat Flynn, and PRO Richard Tobin for their steady support over the past two years. Lastly, I extend my best wishes for further success to everyone involved with Waterford GAA in the future.”
