If you have been following our posts regarding the Monza circuit then you’ll already know that the circuit is currently being investigating by Italian law for numerous wrongdoings (bid rigging, tax fraud just to name a few of the more serious offences the management is being accused of) which also includes avoiding to report and take any action regarding the conditions of the asphalt (bubbles at the Parabolica) during the fourth round of the World Superbike championship that could have endangered the riders.
Following all the backlash and pending further investigations, the FIM has decided to suspend the homologation of the circuit and Monza can no longer hold any type of motorcyle race that is affiliated with the FIM and that also includes races held by the Italian Motorcycle Federation (track days had already been suspended by Sias).
According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Formula 1 race that will be held in September is not in danger as on Monday July 16th, the circuit will begin resurfacing to solve the existing problem.
Infront’s Paolo Flammini who was interviewed said, “The FIM suspending the homologation is exclusively due to the problems at the Parabolica.
I believe that they will be solved in time for the F1 race in September and there will be no problems in re-obtaining the FIM homologation for 2013.
Obviously it will the FIM inspectors who will assess the situation.
