Ferrari F142: future F470

After the presentation of the lovely Ferrari California, Ferrari fans will be eager to know developments on the heir to the F430, the little sedan with central V8 engine which is perhaps more emblematic of the brand.
The name is likely to be F470 but not necessarily the V8 4.

Rumours on the new model are few and confusing.
It is currently code named F142, and will be lighter and more compact, following the 2007 Mille Chili concept.
While figures around 1,100kg have been bandied about, it’s more likely that this vehicle will be around 1250 or 1300 kg or possibly lighter than the current 430 Scuderian which weighs 1250.
These numbers will improve the already incredible road performance, but will also assist in limiting emissions, which is proving to be a big challenge for supercar manufacturers such as Ferrari.
As Montezemolo has recently denied any arrival of a V10 in the Ferrari line-up, the engine is likely to be a turbocharged V8.
The engine will most likely include direct-injection, which recently debuted for Ferrari on the California, with excellent results.
No soft-top spider model will be available, as Ferrari follows the California technology with a rigid folding top, though due to weight limitations and the central engine, the car should still be lighter and more compact than the California.

New F1 transmission will likely be present, with twin clutch technology and a ridiculously fast change time.
The much talked about Kers system will also be available, so we can expect a more extreme, but ecological, Ferrari.
The vehicle should be revealed towards the end of next year.
