Ferrari 250 TR from 1957 on auction at “Ferrari Leggenda e Passione”

The 2009 special auctionFerrari Leggenda e Passione” starts on May 17 at Maranello, and this year is set to be as exciting as last year’s auction.
One of Ferrari’s most impressive sports cars is up for sale: the legendary Ferrari 250 TR from 1957 (model number 0714TR).
This “Testa Rossa” will be accompanied by other legendary Ferrari vintage cars, making for auction paradise for Ferrari fans.

The splendid “pontoon-fender” is considered one of the most fascinating and competitive cars characteristic of the Ferrari brand.
The Scaglietti project produced only 19 cars in 1957 and 1958, and the one up for auction took part in various international competitions and races from 1958 to 1961.
It achieved ten victories, gaining it international fame among vintage car collectors, and becoming one of the most competitive Ferraris ever built.
A piece of Ferrari history is now up for auction, with its original racing black livery and red nose (hence the name, testa rossa or red head).
The Ferrari was first owned in 1957 by Piero Drogo from Modena, a professional racer.
The debut occurred at the Buenos Airos 100km in Argentina in 1958, coming fourth behind Phil Hill, Wolfgang von Trips and Olivier Gendebien.

The car was sold by Luigi Chinetti to Alan Connell, a texan entrepreneur who achieved victories in North America in 1959.
Passing among other lucky owners, the car raced until 1963 at the Elkhart Lake 500.
This auction provides the chance to purchase not only a beautiful vintage racing car, but also a small piece of Ferrari and automobile history.
At last year’s auction a 250 California set a record of seven million euros at the auction.
