“Fatal Russian Shelling in Sumy Region”

In a Sunday update, Ukrainian authorities reported one civilian death and four injuries due to a Russian missile attack on Ukraine’s Sumy region, situated on the contested border. The night through to morning saw 18 shelling incidents by Russian forces, resulting in 47 blast incidences within border territories and Sumy settlements. The updates outlined that nine regional districts were affected by the attack.

Separately, Ukraine’s Air Force stated that they had managed to take down eight of the eleven Russian attack drones used in the raid. The assault reportedly targeted the Ukrainian grain industry and agricultural sector logistics, predominantly in the Sumy and Mykolaiv regions. However, supplementary information was not provided.

On another note, it was reported that Ukrainian troops initiated a grand cross-border attack on the Kursk region, bordering the Sumy region on Russia’s side, on August 6th. Despite this, Russian forces continue to advance towards Pokrovsk, a strategic location in Eastern Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the regional governor disclosed on Sunday that five overnight launched Ukrainian drones were shot down in Russia’s Tver region, situated northwest from Moscow. Governor Igor Rudenya, through the Tver region’s official Telegram channel, stated that no casualties have been reported in the vicinity of Konakovo town following these incidents, though emergency services were present at the scene nonetheless. It was declared that power and gas supply was intact despite reports of loud blasts near the Konakovo Power Station, a significant energy producer in the heart of Russia, as reported by multiple Russian Telegram channels. However, these reports have not been independently substantiated.
