A tragic car accident in Co Mayo claimed the lives of two family members on Tuesday evening. The victims are thought to be a mother and her infant daughter. The accident, involving a collision between their car and a lorry, took place just before 6pm on the N26 at Callow, between Foxford and Swinford.
At the scene of the dreadful accident, an extensive emergency operation is underway, with paramedics, police officers and fire services all in attendance. The deceased individuals still remain at the site as of Tuesday evening.
Following this devastating incident, the N26 has been temporarily closed to facilitate a police forensic examination of the accident site, which a local resident branded as “terrible”. The road is set to remain closed with detour routes set up until further updates unfold.
It is thought that the individuals who sadly lost their lives in the accident are locals from the central region of Co Mayo. The lorry driver’s condition remains unknown at this time, with no immediate details on any injuries sustained.
