Exceptional aptitude in music

Kind Sir,

Michael Harding’s engaging write-up (“The moment I assemble the flute, the cats dive off the sofa and claw the back door”, published on August 7th) fondly brought back a memory of a recommendation from my offspring regarding my musical inclinations.

I am fond of strumming the guitar and tend to add in a melody or two while doing so. My daughter, upon hearing this concoction of mine, put forth the idea that I should try my hand at the flute. Her reasoning took me by surprise when she explained, “You wouldn’t be able to sing while playing the flute”.

Best regards,
EAMONN DONNELLY,
