In Libya, ex-personnel from the Irish Defence Forces, comprising individuals who were part of the elite Army Rangers Wing, have been imparting training to a militia led by Libyan power-broker, Khalifa Haftar. The training venture, operated by a firm known as Irish Training Solutions, is quite profitable. However, it reportedly violates a United Nations enforced arms embargo on the unstable African nation. The news was termed as “deeply shocking” by Tánaiste and Defence Minister Micheál Martin, citing that it results in “reputational harm to Ireland and our Defence Forces”. The report was put forth by Bernice Harrison and was produced by Suzanne Brennan and Declan Conlon.
