The hearing regarding assault charges brought against previous Dublin GAA football player, Diarmuid Connolly, has been postponed for a period of seven weeks. The 36-year old accused, residing at Collinswood, Beaumont is charged with assaulting two individuals – Stephen Grimes and Stephen Kiely – outside a pub on New Year’s Eve 2022, at Shantalla Road in Santry.
Mr Connolly’s initial court appearance took place at the Dublin District Court in February after being summoned. He was given an adjournment to enable disclosure of the prosecution’s evidence before entering a plea. His defence team requested any available CCTV footage of the alleged assault.
Those found guilty of this type of assault can face prison terms up to six months for each offence. The hearing had been scheduled to recommence under the purview of Judge Michele Finan on Thursday. However, the prosecution requested a delay till May 30th. Mr Connolly was in attendance during the proceedings but was not required to provide any evidence.
