“Evidence Book in Purcell Healy’s Son’s Death”

Ruth Purcell Healy, aged 37, who is accused of killing her son, Matthew Healy, has been brought to court to stand trial at the Central Criminal Court. Ms. Purcell Healy, a resident of Bishops Field, Williamstown, Waterford, made an appearance at the Waterford District Court on Thursday when the evidence dossier was handed over to Judge Kevin Staunton.

Six-year-old Matthew Healy was discovered lifeless near Rathmoylan Cove, Dunmore East, shortly after midnight on 9th February 2024. He was later pronounced dead at the University Hospital Waterford. In the legal proceeding, lawyer Ken Cunningham did not request bail, given that Ms. Purcell Healy is currently undergoing treatment at the Central Mental Hospital. Nevertheless, the option for a future bail application still remains open.

An adjustment to the charge details was proposed, calling for the implicated night to reflect both dates inclusively. The proposal was endorsed by Judge Staunton. Judge Staunton verified that the case will advance to the present sessions of the Central Criminal Court. He also issued a warning to Ms. Purcell Healy concerning provision of an alibi, stating that she has a duration of 14 days to inform the State of any alibi. Additionally, Judge Staunton introduced a Section 56 order related to evidence.
