Evaluations of Irish players at Twickenham after a close match, with England clinching a 23-22 win

Hugo Keenan, number 15, demonstrated excellent defensive skills during the first half, and made an impressive tackle following the yellow card, making him one of the top performers of the day. His performance was rated 8.

Calvin Nash, however, only spent six minutes on the field before Ciaran Frawley replaced him, essentially rendering a rating impossible due to his limited playtime.

Robbie Henshaw, donned jersey number 13, showed fantastic defensive capability, notably getting a solid tackle on Furbank and a turnover towards the end of the first half. He kept his energy levels up throughout the game earning himself a rating of 7.

Bundee Aki, number 12, exhibited strong prowess with numerous turnovers, forceful carries and robust tackles through both halves. His performance was a standout, earning him a rating of 9.

Meanwhile, James Lowe, jersey number 11, secured early possession of the ball and delivered some noteworthy long-range relief kicks. He scored impressively, ensuring neither of his tries were easy. His stellar gameplay was acknowledged with a rating of 9.

Jack Crowley, number 10, scored all of Ireland’s points in the first half displaying grace under pressure. His confronting gameplay earned him a rating of 7. Similarly, Jamison Gibson-Park, number 9, while he made an initial blunder, got back on track delivering an instrumental pass to Lowe for the second try. He also received a respectable rating of 7.

Among the forwards, Andrew Porter, number 1, showed good initiative with early carries and robust tackling during the first half when England were stronger. He earned a rating of 7.

However, Dan Sheehan and Tadgh Furlong, number 2 and 3 respectively, while not having many opportunities to make a significant imprint on the game, did their part with consistent effort – both earning a rating of 7.

The performances of Joe McCarthy, number 4, and Tadgh Beirne, number 5, were quieter in comparison though they each showed commendable effort, receiving ratings of 6 and 7 respectively.

6 Peter O’Mahony: Continuously got stuck in and was a constant annoyance. Unfortunately, his conspicuous involvement in the ruck led to the yellow card. His performance score was a 6.

7 Josh van der Flier: He displayed his potential at the onset of the game with productive carries. He successfully turned over possession and blocked a potential drop goal in the first half. He’s certainly edging back to peak performance. He was scored a deserving 8.

8 Caelan Doris: His tackling was top notch, putting a stop to the threatening Feyi-Waboso in the first half and stripping the ball from Lawrence. The game would have benefited had he had more ball possession. He too earned a commendable score of 8.

The replacements: Frawley was brought on the pitch unexpectedly early and it took him a while to settle. The clearance from the bench was however a success and nearly clinched victory. Henderson’s presence notably reinforced the lineout. They received an overall score of 7.

Concerning the coach, Andy Farrell took a gamble with the 6-2 division but setbacks ensued when Nash and Frawley suffered injuries just six minutes in. His strategy was no match for the opposition, despite its success in the previous game. His tactical score was a 6.
