In a recent article by Conor Pope, Brian Lee, the CEO of the Health Insurance Authority, expressed that health insurance, comprising of 348 health plans, is overly complex, and there is a risk of consumers finding it overwhelming (“Health insurance too intricate and might perplex customers, warns regulator”, News, 25th of September). The Health Insurance Authority does provide a service where they compare health plans for their customers, however, they only contrast three plans at a time. Isn’t this limiting, considering the technological advancements such as AI and filtering systems? These could potentially make it straightforward for a customer to contrast all 348 plans and subsequently reduce their expenses. I propose that the regulator should consider this as their initial step in their campaign to simplify the health insurance process.
