Round of 16, Second Leg Champions League Match: FC Copenhagen (1) at Manchester City (3), Wednesday at 8.0pm – Broadcast live on Virgin Media Two
Erling Haaland of Manchester City expresses his contentment at the club while also acknowledging the unpredictability of the future. Haaland embarked on his journey with City in the summer of 2022, and the Norwegian celebrated an exciting debut season, claiming the treble and netting 52 goals. Haaland, who is signed to City through to 2027 and recognized by Real Madrid, was asked whether he views his future at City as long-term.
He answers, “I’m genuinely content, particularly with my amazing support structure – the manager, the executives, and the board. However, I must admit that the future remains unpredictable.” Further emphasizing his happiness, Haaland asks us to report not just his conjectures about the future, but also his current state of happiness.
Rather than dwelling on contract extensions, Haaland is more focused on his performance. “Presently, my attention is solely on the pitch,” he says. “We had the Manchester derby two days ago, now it’s the Champions League, and come Sunday, it’s Liverpool. My efforts should be focused only on these.”
Scoring 80 goals in his 84 City appearances, including 28 this season, Haerland downplays the praise he receives as a good goal scorer by highlighting how he blew an ample opportunity to score against United. He believes he can still hone his finishing skills.
“I find my ability to remain mentally tough pivotal to my success even though maintaining it was a struggle from a young age. Remembering my younger self getting teary if we were defeated and I had missed a lot of opportunities, I know I’ve improved a lot.”
Manchester City is set to play against Copenhagen at home on Wednesday in the second leg of the Champions League last-16, having a 3-1 lead. Haaland tells us he had almost signed with the Danish club when he was 16.
“A few chaps were keen on me, but I wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea,” he voiced. “The deal fell through – unfortunate for them, possibly fortunate for me as I ended up at Molde and made a sound decision. I even received a jersey, a No 9 Haaland one. It’s still in my possession at home. Things didn’t transpire as planned, but I ended up on a different path. It’s been quite a suitable journey till now,” as stated in The Guardian.
