Engaging with Residents in High-Rise Buildings

Dear Editor,

With speculations rife about the pending general election, I would wish to draw attention to the influence of residents in apartment complexes. In my current residence, where I’ve lived for nearly two decades, I’ve never been approached by political campaigners during electoral or referendum seasons. Similar accounts echo across my neighbours and friends residing in various apartment buildings across Dublin. This nonchalance was no different during my early days as a city centre tenant, prior to owning my property.

Assumptions that individuals living in flats are simply students, temporary residents or politically indifferent is an outdated notion. A significant portion of Ireland’s population that reside in multiple dwelling units have a say in the voting process. Political parties stand to lose if they dismiss this populace by virtue of accessibility challenges to these residences.

Moreover, with the likelihood of winter elections, indoor canvassing within these residential complexes provides a convenient opportunity for politicians to stay warm and sheltered. In conclusion, it will not bode well to overlook us.

Kind regards,

Claire Bradley,
Swords,
Co Dublin.
